What Is Fam Anon Actually?

Families Anonymous is a world-wide fellowship of family members and friends who have been affected by another's abuse of mind-altering substances or related behavioural problems. Fam Anon offer support groups gatherings, on a regular basis, throughout the country. Even if there is only a suspicion of a problem, any concerned individual is deeply encouraged to attend the meetings.

In 1971, Fam Anon was established by groups of families living in America. In 1980 the first group in London was founded now there are over 50 groups holding meetings in various parts of the country.


The fellowship is first formulated by Alcoholic Anonymous and is a self-help organisation with a programme based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.


How Can It Help?

Fam Anon groups provide a platform for members to share drug and alcohol abuse concerns, learn from encouragement and experience from group members' in dealing with the delicate issue of challenges of family member's addiction. The group members learn how to come to terms with the problem disturbing their lives.

Fam Anon was founded by a group of families in Los Angeles in 1971 and it is based on the 12 Steps programme from the Alcoholic Anonymous. In London, the initial group in the UK was founded in 1980 and now there are around 50 groups across the nation.
